England along with Wales Pitted Together for RWC 2027 in Australia

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The pool stage draw was overseen by sporting legends including former All Black Dan Carter.

England together with Wales have been drawn in the same pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a major pool stage clash in Australia. They are joined in Pool F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This pairing echoes their infamous clash in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where a Welsh win at England's home ground contributed to the hosts' shock early exit.

Other Notable Pool Pairings

The Irish alongside the Scots also share a group once again, replicating the scenario from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, Ireland claimed a convincing victory, with Scotland failing to progress to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Portugal, both impressed as underdogs in France, complete that same group.

Significantly, the victors of both Pool D and Pool F are kept apart from defending champions and world number one the Springboks until the final, assuming the Springboks win their assigned pool.

Tournament Ramifications

If the pools conclude in line with the current global standings, further leading contenders like the All Blacks and Les Bleus would remain separated from the likes of the English and the Irish all the way to the final.

In that scenario, Los Pumas would be the remaining highly-seeded nation on that half of the knockout draw as those northern hemisphere teams.

Hosts Draw Major Fixture

Hosts the Wallabies find themselves alongside their trans-Tasman rivals and three-time winners the All Blacks in Group A.

Australia will kick off the World Cup in the city of Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a blockbuster match designed to jump-start the competition.

Elsewhere, reigning champions South Africa have been paired with the Azzurri, the Lelos and the Oaks. France are grouped with the Brave Blossoms, 2031 hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Expanded Format for 2027

Los Pumas will face Fiji, Los Leones and Canada as the tournament expands to 24 teams from the 20 who competed in 2023.

This edition will introduce a round of 16 round for the very first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

Although the victor of Pool F may avoid some of the game's heavyweights early on, they will have to face the runner-up from Group B โ€“ most likely Italy โ€“ in the first knockout round.

Four of the remaining six pool winners will face a third-placed side from the pool stages.
